Frank Adshead was born February 19, 1918 in Cardston, Alberta. He joined the Canadian Army in May 1940 and served initially with the 112th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA). He later transferred on 6 May 1944 to the 20th Anti-Tank Battery RCA. Frank was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on September 1, 1944. He served in Canada, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany during the course of World War II and landed on JUNO Beach Normandy on D-Day +1. His medals included: the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and bar. Frank was discharged on January 8th, 1946. He married his wife “Bessie” on July 31st 1946 and drove a bus for the City of Lethbridge for 39 years. He loved fishing, gardening, woodwork and was a proud member of the Normandy Veterans Association. Frank passed away at the age of 81 in September 1999.
