Frederic Phillips was born 22 March 1881 in Rye, England. He was principal of Galbraith school in Lethbridge for 18 months and also a school cadet instructor before enlisting in the 78th Overseas Battery Canadian Expeditionary Force as the first member. He was killed during the Battle of Passchendaele on 12 November 1918. He was married to Mary who was residing in England at the time. A brass memorial plaque was installed at Galbraith School after the war in his honour by the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire.
