Herbert Thomas Hacker was born July 7th 1910 in Lethbridge. He was married in 1940 to Olinda and over time had four children. He and his wife moved to New Westminster, BC in 1941. Herb served as an Air Raid Warden until he joined the Canadian Army in December 1943. He then went to the Little Mountain Military Training Camp in Vancouver followed by training at Currie Barracks, Calgary at the Canadian Infantry Training Centre where he became an infantry soldier. In December 1944 Herbert went to Nova Scotia and then onto England, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He served with the Calgary Highlanders from 29 December 1944 to 23 October 1945. Herbert was medically discharged from the Canadian Army in January 1946 although remaining hospitalized until May 1946. Herb was married in 1940 to Olinda and they had four children. Following his World War II service he worked at Lethbridge Iron Works as an iron monger until his retirement. Herbert passed away in 1992.
