Herb was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 2, 1933. At the age of 5 his family moved to Parry Sound, Ontario. He began his career as a Merchant Mariner on the Great Lakes and later joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he served for 25 years with the Princess Patricia‘s Canadian Light Infantry as a professional soldier. Herb served as a peacekeeper in Korea, Japan, Germany, Cyprus, Egypt, Norway, and England. He was decorated many times including a medal from the Korean Consulate General. In Lethbridge Herb was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years and served as the Branch Sergeant-At-Arms. Herb passed away on Nov 15, 2020, his wife Shirley passed away in 2011 and his oldest daughter Deborah in 1987. Herb & Shirley had 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Herb‘s daughter Terri Schellenberg, resides in Lethbridge and his son, Herbert Taylor Jr. lives in Red Deer.
