Joseph Richard Chollak was born April 2, 1909 in Lethbridge where he grew up and was schooled. As an adult he experienced many adventures before deciding to work for his brother-in-law in Lomond, Alberta where he met Betty Caldwell his future bride. Joe joined the Canadian Army in September 1942 and served during the 2nd World War with the Royal Canadian Artillery. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and served in England, France, the Netherlands, and Germany. He was discharged in February 1946. Joe returned to Lomond and then in 1951 moved his family to Lethbridge. “Boiler” worked as a bartender for many years and later as a custodian in a high school until his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. Joe and Betty had three children: Josephine, Richard, and Brian. Joe passed away on August 31, 1980.
