Michael (Mickey) Porter was born May 1921 in Cowley, Alberta. He enlisted in the military at Currie Barracks Calgary in 1939 at the beginning of WW II. In 1940 he remustered from the Army to the Royal Canadian Air Force. After training in Saskatchewan and Camp Borden, Ontario he served in Canada with the Armament Division as a bombing and gunnery instructor. He received an honourable medical discharge in 1944. Mickey then returned to Southern Alberta where he married and raised a family. He farmed for a number of years in Skiff, Alberta. He then moved to Lethbridge in 1982 where he became an active member of the 702 Wing RCAF Association (Lethbridge) and the Royal Canadian Legion General Stewart Branch Number 4. He became President of both these veteran associations. Mickey Porter passed away in 2012.
