Peter Lewko was born on January 20th, 1921 in Foremost, Alberta. After his schooling was completed he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He then joined the Canadian Army in 1941 at the age of 21. He completed his basic training in Camrose, Alberta and then did further training in Petawawa, Ontario. He served overseas in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany with the Canadian Railway Troops. Whilst in England he married Muriel a British war bride in 1944. He returned to Canada in early 1946 and was demobilized that March. Peter and Muriel raised three boys. Following the war he once again worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway and was active in the railway union until his retirement in 1959. Residing in Lethbridge Peter was involved in the community umpiring baseball, refereeing hockey, a member of the Lethbridge Masonic Lodge for 70 years and the Lethbridge Shriners Club for over 40 years. Peter is still going strong at over 101 years of age.
