Samuel Kiffiak was born on July 10th 1922 in Calder Saskatchewan. After completing his schooling he travelled to southern Alberta to assist his brothers on their farms. While there he was called to serve in the Canadian Army as a member of the Cameron Highlanders of Canada. Sam was involved in the liberation of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands from July 1944 through to the end of World War II. After the war he married his fiancé who had waited for him throughout the war and together they had two sons: Gerald and Leslie. Sam worked in the oilfield supply business until his retirement. He celebrated his 100th birthday in July 2022. Samuel is the paternal uncle of Erna Topliffe of Lethbridge.
