Wally, as he was known, was born in Lethbridge February 2nd, 1932 to Ed and Margaret Peterson. His siblings were: Eveline Hamilton, William (Bill) Peterson, Bert Peterson, Lyla Kast, Madeline Kast, and Audrey Melvin. He called Lethbridge home all his life. He and his friend and future cousin-in-law, Murray Lumley, enlisted in the Army on May 7th, 1951, and served in the Korean War. Wally wanted to serve in Communications while Murray wanted to serve as a mechanic. But the Armed Forces deemed Wally to work as a Mechanic and Murray in Communications! Wally returned home as a Lance Bombardier with the Canadian Korea Medal and the United Nations Service Medal (Korea). After working at various jobs, Wally started his own garbage collection business in Lethbridge. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, The Miners Library, and the Pemmican Club. When he passed away at 47 years of age, on January 20th, 1980, he was adored by his siblings, nieces, and nephews and all of their children.

Only 90 additional (over and above the 2023 banners) will be displayed in the lead up to the 2024 Remembrance Day so sponsorships will again be available on a first come first served basis.
