Corporal Walter Dewitt Morris was born 18 September 1914 in Carmangay. He was known as “Dee”. Dee grew up south of Taber on a farm. Before enlisting in the war, Dee went to Chicago to Greer College where he obtained his Diesel Mechanic Papers. After returning home, he met Marie Ashton and were subsequently married and they had a daughter and son.
Walter joined the RCAF and during the war was in charge of power stations on the west coast. After the war he and his wife farmed and later owned a general store in Purple Springs. They had one son and one daughter. Walter died at the age of 73 on 17 March 1988. Dee and Marie had two kids, six grandkids and fifteen great grandkids.
