William Knight was born June 8, 1896 in Scarborough Ontario to Henry and Emily (Bawden) Knight, moving to Hamiota, Manitoba in 1907, with his parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Bill enlisted on March 31, 1916 with the 200th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) arriving England in May 1917. He was then drafted to the 27th Battalion CEF and went to France in June 1917. He was later drafted to the 2nd Canadian Machine Gun Corps. Upon his discharge on May 27, 1919 he started farming in the McConnell and Oak River Manitoba area. Bill married Bertha Peggs on March 18,1932. They raised one daughter Sheila ( Fred ) Chinner and 2 sons, Wayne and Darrell Knight, retiring to the town of Oak River in 1962. Bill passed away in 1977. William Knight is the grandfather of Dennis Chinner who is a resident of Lethbridge, Alberta.
